For several years the Wood County Solid Waste District has helped provide funding for two full-time sheriff's deputies to enforce litter laws, supervise inmate roadside litter collection, and enforce solid waste dumping complaints including untarped loads.
In 2006, 832 inmates worked to clear 42,002 pounds of debris and litter from 409 miles of Wood County roads. 296 tires were also removed and properly disposed. The program also received and investigated 138 litter and open burning complaints.
