Impaired driving is a crime and will not be tolerated. Alcohol impaired driving is one of America’s most often committed and deadliest crimes. Overall in 2007, nearly 13,000 people were killed in highway crashes involving a driver or motorcycle operator with an illegal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. In 2007, of the 6,159 passenger vehicle drivers in the age group of 21 to 34 killed in crashes, 51 percent had a BAC of .08 or higher. This is why on Saturday, August 22, 2009 our office will be hosting a “Don’t Drink and Drive” event on the Campus of Bowling Green State University from 9 pm to Midnight on Saturday, August 22, 2009 to raise awareness about this crime.
In conjunction with other local law enforcement agencies in Wood County, we will be presenting drunk-driving facts to the incoming students at BGSU during orientation at move-in weekend. We will be presenting information, having demonstrations, and games to raise awareness of this deadly crime. We also will be increasing our patrol efforts during this time as a deterrent to prevent alcohol related crashes.
With the National Tractor Pulls, college students returning to Bowling Green State University, and local school districts starting their school year during this time, it is important that we promote this message in as many ways as possible. If you would like to attend the event at BGSU, you are most welcome!!! Please contact Dep. Sandy Wiechman at swiechman@co.wood.oh.us to let her know that you will be attending.
Thank you for your continued efforts to assist in promoting our Traffic Safety Endeavors.
