Immediate Release - Wood County Law Enforcement Agencies conduct traffic safety event at Bowling Green State University
On Saturday night, August 22, 2009 Wood County Law Enforcement agencies including the Wood County Sheriff's Office, Bowling Green State University Police Department, Bowling Greeen Police Department, Pemberville Police Department, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Post 87, conducted a "Drunk Driving" awareness program to over several hundred incoming Freshmen at Bowling Green State University. The program included the use of goggles that simulated different intoxication levels. Participants were given food certificates for taking on challenges such as catching a ball or performing field sobriety tests while wearing the devices. Several area vendors donated gift certificates for the event that was coordinated by Deputy Sandy Wiechman. The Bowling Green State University Mascots - Freddie and Frieda attended the event as well and assisted by displaying a banner which read, "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest." Additional materials on the use of seatbelts and motorcycle safety was distributed to the students. This program was designed to bring awareness to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign on drunk driving.
