There was a day when our kids use to pass notes in class; play board games with the family or go to the library to check out a book. Those activities have been replaced with texting, online gaming and surfing the web. As a parent, we are faced with the challenge of protecting our kids and teens from the risks associated with online behaviors. This task can be taunting when kids know more than their parents.

The Wood County Sheriff's Office is excited to offer a program entitled, "Protecting Kids and Teens Online" which is designed to provide adults and parents with some of the very skills that internet savvy kids already have.

As a parent, do you know the latest teen internet trends? If your child was engaging in risky behaviors, are you aware of the signs to look for? Perhaps the most important question of all is simply - do you know what your child knows about the internet? Our program offers an in-depth look at the world wide web; social networking; instant messenging; and texting. You will be provided strategies and suggestions to help ensure your child's internet activities are as safe as possible.

Our program is one and a half hours in length and is designed for adults. We will be scheduling presentation dates at the Wood County Sheriff's Office in the very near future. However, if your community, parent or civic group would like to have us bring the presentation to you please do not hesitate to ask! To request our presentation please complete the online form below.

If you need more information on internet safety, you are encouraged to visit safekids.com.
